What is ethical harvesting? It is a gentle process where sponges are removed from their source without touching the roots. Similar to pruning a tree, this allows stronger and bigger branches of sea sponge to regrow. The gentle harvesting process also causes millions of sponges cells to be released into the waters, where they are fertilized, attach to sea rocks, and grow into new sponges.

Plastic is the biggest agitator of marine biology, and possibly the biggest pollutant in the entire world.

Because the sea gifted us with these beautiful sponges, we consider it our duty to show respect in return by minimizing plastic in our production.

IntimateCare sponges are 100% plastic-free.

Each sponge is wrapped in paper, then packed in either a cardboard box or a reusable, ethically sourced and produced paper wrap.

A bleached sponge will typically last for six months, an unbleached equivalent will last a bit longer.

When a sponge has reached the end of its useful life it can be thrown away with the regular organic household waste.

Caribbean sponges are the typical alternative.

If a sponge product doesn’t identify where the sponge comes from, chances are it’s not Mediterranean.

Let’s set the record straight: We don’t sell menstrual sponges.

The extra high-quality Mediterranean Fine Silk sponge product that we are famous for is actually called an “IntimateCare Sponge.” Yes, some users insist on calling it a menstrual sponge. But that’s not what we call it. Because it’s really so much more. It’s a natural, hypoallergenic and absorbent sea sponge that you can confidently use for a wide range of intimate applications.

We hear of users who insert a sponge (or two) to support a prolapse, users who insert a trimmed down sponge to absorb blood during intimacy at ‘that time of month’, users who apply spermicide to use them as a barrier contraceptive, and those who them as natural sea sponge tampons. But we don’t promote or recommend any of that.

We’d rather keep life simple. We give you high grade Mediterranean Fine Silk sea sponges. We call them IntimateCare sponges. But at the end of the day, it’s just a sponge. So do with it as you please.

Our smooth sponges with the fine pores are referred to as Fine Silk sponges. They are suited for tasks where a smaller, smoother sponge is needed.

Using a large Silk sponge for the shower wouldn’t work very well yet a small cut Fine Silk sponge is perfect for facial care or for intimate use of the most sensitive parts of the body.

Fine Silk sponges grow in both the Mediterranean and Caribbean, but the cooler temperatures of the Mediterranean, along with a range of other environmental variables, results in two different sponges.

We tried both and hands down, in our opinion, the Mediterranean Fine Silk sponge is the higher grade sponge.

Their pores are much smaller which produces a finer, smoother texture, and the sponges are more robust so they last longer even with regular use.

Better absorbency was another attribute of the Mediterranean sponge, thanks to it's greater density.
